Well, as usual with me, it's always feast or famine. Last week was feast, fo' sho'. With huge preparations for my recital under way, I was typing program notes, having recital hearings, and singing dress rehearsals. Putting on a recital is a lot of work! So on top of all that, I was still doing all my normal things, including work in both Admissions and Apple.
I also auditioned on Wednesday for the world-premiere of an opera that a Drake Law professor wrote, and I was cast! And it's a paying role too! I was pretty excited. I'm playing the role of Max, one of the older brothers in an opera about a Jewish family at the outset of the Nazi's persecution of Jewish families. It's going to be premiered at the Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines, and the Des Moines Symphony will be playing, conducted by Joe Guinta (sp?). Anyway, going to be an amazing production, and I hope everyone will be able to make it out to see it! From what I can tell, it's going to be truly a showcase of talent in Des Moines, from the Des Moines Symphony, to the Des Moines Choral Society, to local Drake singers.
Ok, so I'm not gonna lie, I'm such an old person. It's 11:15, and I'm feeling sleepy. And all I can really think about is how I want to go to sleep now. I promise that I'll update again this week, and not get all busy like I did last week. My week was compacted into about 2 days, which was good and bad. I had a Music History exam this morning at 9am, and then a big conducting project at 10am. And I did awesome at both! BUT, I spent all day Sunday studying and preparing for them. My recital ended up being cancelled because of the weather, which while making me sad inside a little, gave me more time to focus on these other things. SO, it will be re-scheduled, but in that interim, I dove right on into my other academic studies. The point of my rambling was, I'll have more time this week to post again. :-)
Place of the Post: Iowa Bakery Cafe. It's like Panera, but local, and much more delicious. Oh, and the owner is usually there in the mornings, and is the nicest man. And they have a rewards program, and I usually end up getting a few dollars knocked off my bill every time. So awesome.
