Relays was spectacular! Well, you know....in that relative kind of spectacular. It was rainy on Thurs/Fri, and then was somewhat nice on Saturday. Parking was my major issue, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. For some reason, I felt like there weren't as many people here for the Relays as in past year. Not sure if that was because of the weather, or just my general perception.
I did get to taste some delectable treats on Friday afternoon at the "Midway" or whatever they call that plaza outside the stadium. Nothing like a hot funnel cake on a Friday afternoon. YUM.
Friday was the Court Ave Celebration downtown. We took the bus and had dinner at Legends, a sports bar and grill at 2nd and Court. Food was pretty decent. Lynell had a burger, and I had a chicken sandwich. We ended up at Liars for a bit and took the bus back to campus. Though they dropped us off at Olmsted, Student Senate had hired an old-fashioned trolley to run around campus for the evening, so her and I were able to jump on and make it back to my apt.
I ate at the new BBQ place near campus called Jethros on Saturday. Pretty good food, though it was so busy that it took us 30 minutes to get our takeout. We sat on the patio, which was a little colder than we would have liked it. So goes the weather in Iowa...
This week is production week for the opera. Come see it! I'm on in the chorus of Dido & Aeneas, but have 2 leads in the scenes program as well! They're rockin'!
Place of the Post: Jethros (32nd and Forrest Ave.). Formerly, the Des Moines Police Traffic Unit station, and before that a Pizza Hut, it now touts itself as, "Your Drake Neighborhood Sports Bar." It certainly has an upgraded interior, with exposed wood beams, flat-screen TVs a plenty, and ample seating with a bar area. The food was decent, but not the best I've ever had. Hopefully it will improve even more when not so busy (I went during the peak of Relays season).
